It has been reported today sadly that British citizens from the same family including a mother, daughter and her son with close connections to family in Leicester have lost their lives in a horrific accident on their way from Madinah to Makkah to perform Umrah.

The FMO condemns and opposes indisputably the inhumane actions of the IS (Islamic State) Group formerly known as ISIS.

The FMO feels that the actions of the Israeli government have resulted in long lasting damage which no temporary ceasefire can mask. The 72 hour break has enabled the people of Gaza to return to assess their homes but already it is clear that the world has much to ponder over the events in Gaza.

As people around the world mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1, the Federation of Muslim Organisations (FMO) offers its gratitude to all those who fought to preserve the freedoms which people of all faiths and backgrounds now enjoy.

The FMO has supported the UN Secretary General's claims that Israel's bombing of a UN run school in Gaza was "a moral outrage and a criminal act" which constituted a "gross violation of International law. 

The FMO has produced a 'One Leicester' Peace Flag in solidarity with the people of Gaza who have over the past few weeks endured the most terrible of catastrophes. The flag has been signed by hundreds of local residents including our elected MPs, Keith Vaz, Jon Ashworth and Liz Kendall. The flag will be presented to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street along with a letter of condemnation also signed by hundreds of local residents.

More than 20 leading doctors and scientists* from the UK and Italy denounce ongoing Israeli military aggression in Gaza in a letter to The Lancet, published today [Tuesday 22 July].  

“On the basis of our ethics and practice, we are denouncing what we witness in the aggression of Gaza by Israel,” write the authors. “We ask our colleagues, old and young professionals, to denounce this Israeli aggression.”
