Suleman Nagdi from the Federation of Muslim Organisations (FMO) on 1 December 2015 presented guests from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Department For International Development (DFID) to Gateway College in Leicester.
There was a lively and engaging discussion with students from the college as well as students from other schools including Madani High School and Al-Aqsa school. All those who attended welcomed the opportunity to ask questions on current government policy on a range of challenging international relations issues.
The view expressed by all those in attendance was that engagement and dialogue is a great way forward not only in this context but also in the wider context of international relations.
Mr Nagdi emphasised that the issues discussed were complex and multi-faceted and must never be used to fuel extremist ideologies as our religion compels us to enjoin good and forbid evil.
Mr Nagdi also emphasised the importance of young people engaging with parents and their spiritual leaders (Imams) to discuss challenging issues. All in attendance hope that this is the first of many meetings.
