Overview

During the last 10 days of FMO Radio Ramadhan 2008, the FMO in conjunction with local drug workers, councillors and imams launched the Drug 3 initiative. This initiative was welcomed with great support from the whole spectrum of the community where many organisations raised their interests in becoming a partner of Drug 3.

Consultation

Over the year there have been a number of consultations with drugs / youth workers; community leaders; Imams and users / ex-users to devise the strategic direction of this project. A common factor that was continuously highlighted to ensure the success of the project was to relay the message that the drugs issue is a community issue and that the solution is embedded by the involvement of the community.

The Drug 3 initiative will be underlined with:

1. Community involvement;
2. Community participation;
3. Community empowerment. 

The project aims to include the following 3 strands which is designed to ensure that the issue of drugs are tackled from a multiple of angles:

1. Prevention;
2. Intervention;
3. Retention.
